Tourism industry shares proposals with govt. on Act amendment

The tourism industry stakeholders shared with the government this week proposals to take into account when amending the Tourism Act, so that the sector does not take another hit.

The Hotels Association of Sri Lanka (THASL), Sri Lanka Association of Inbound Tour Operators (SLAITO) and One Industry One Voice handed over to Tourism Minister Prasanna Ranatunga the areas of concerns and a number of proposals that must be looked into when amending the Tourism Act.

In a statement to the media, the associations said that while it is preferred for the current act to remain, if a change should take place, then it must be ensured that it is done in a manner that is least impactful to the already struggling sector.

The proposal was also handed over to the Ministry Secretary and Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA).
