The SLAITO Annual General Meeting was successfully held on Friday, 11th of October 2024, at the stunning Heritance Ahungala. The evening was filled with excitement, camaraderie, and a strong focus on the future of SLAITO and Sri Lanka’s tourism industry.
We are thrilled to announce the newly appointed office bearers for SLAITO 2024/25. Congratulations to all the new leaders who will guide SLAITO in the year ahead!
During his speech, the newly appointed president, Nalin Jayasundera, emphasized the critical role that SLAITO plays in the tourism sector as the apex body representing Destination Management Companies (DMCs). With over 180 member DMCs and a significant presence from the SME sector, SLAITO members are responsible for generating more than 65% of tourist arrivals in the formal sector, spending over 2 billion rupees annually to promote Sri Lanka globally.
Nalin highlighted the importance of recognizing tourism as a priority industry and reaffirmed the government’s target of 4 million tourist arrivals and 9 billion USD in revenue by 2030. He stressed the need for a sustained global marketing campaign and the completion of key infrastructure projects, such as the expansion of the airport and the Colombo-Kandy highway, to make Sri Lanka a year-round destination and the most sought-after in Asia.
SLAITO remains committed to working closely with the government and stakeholders to drive the growth and sustainability of the tourism industry for the benefit of all.
